Here’s a gorgeous example I scanned of Polly and Her Pals with a Sweethearts and Wives header strip from 1930 by Cliff Sterrett. Sterrett really hit his stride in the late 20’s.

Lutefisk Sushi Volume C
I’m participating in and co-curating the Cartoonist Conspiracy‘s third Lutefisk Sushi event opening this Friday, May 2nd.
We have over 50 Minnesota cartoonists participating this time around. As with the two previous shows, the focus of the show will be on a huge box set of mini-comics. Around 50 mini-comics for $25, in a gorgeous, silkscreened box set, limited to an edition of 150.
Other features at the show will include a fantastic overview of the work of featured artist Kevin Cannon, a “Potty Humor” exhibit, and a working, hands-on zoetrope built by Volume B’s featured artist Ken Avidor.

Crumbling Paper: Polly – When Pa Digs in He Has to Stay in (strip #1)
Boy have our friends at the fantastic online comic strip library Barnacle Press been on a roll lately! They’ve posted a collection of more of Swinnerton’s Dear Little Katy, which I published examples of recently. They just posted a bunch of examples of the bizarre and mischievous Uncle Mun (which I’ve also published examples of). Last week they posted examples of one of the earliest daily comic strips, The Hallroom Boys. Best of all, they put up an enormous library of one of the funniest and most visually inventive comic strips of all time, Cliff Sterrett’s Polly and Her Pals. Don’t miss this one. It is a travesty that the few reprint books there have been of this strip are all out of print.
Here’s an example I scanned of Polly and Her Pals by Cliff Sterrett, from 1921. I’ll have a couple more of these this week.

The Missing Panel!
Now that’s service! Less than six hours after I made the last post with the Dear Little Katy strip missing a panel, our friend Thrillmer! from Barnacle Press has provided a scan of the missing panel from the strip! Thanks, Thrillmer!
Note that if you haven’t checked out the Barnacle Press site yet, you should do yourself a favor and get over there. It is easily the biggest repository of comics from the early history of comics on the web… I link to them almost daily. I hope this quick response means Barnacle Press will be posting more examples of Dear Little Katy!
Crumbling Paper: Sweet, Charming Katy
Here’s an example I scanned of Dear Little Katy from 1904 by Jimmy Swinnerton. Dear Little Katy would seem to be Little Jimmy in drag. The penultimate panel 10 has crumbled to dust somewhere… if anyone wants to draw a version of the missing panel I’ll post it here.
